AI HORIZONS IN EDUCATION International Course 2026
Practical AI for Teaching, Learning and Personalised Education

5 - 10 July 2026

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing education. Teachers are now able to use AI to design better lessons, understand student needs more deeply, identify learning difficulties earlier, and create more personalised learning experiences.
AI Horizons in Education International Course 2026 offers a practical and fully interactive learning experience for teachers, school leaders, teacher trainers, and education professionals who want to use AI effectively in real classroom settings.
The course will offer participants the opportunity to explore how an ecosystem of AI tools can support the full teaching and learning process. Participants will work with practical classroom scenarios and learn how AI can assist them in lesson design, activity creation, student profiling, formative assessment, feedback, differentiation, and the development of personalised learning pathways.
Throughout the course, participants will design AI-supported lessons and learning activities that respond to different student needs. They will explore how AI can help teachers prepare richer educational materials, adapt content for different levels, generate inquiry-based tasks, support collaborative work, and create more inclusive classroom experiences.

A strong focus will be placed on understanding students better. Participants will examine how AI can support the identification of prior knowledge, learning gaps, and misconceptions early in the learning process. They will work with examples showing how teachers can use AI-generated insights to adjust their teaching, provide timely support, and guide students more effectively.
The course will also offer hands-on experience in creating personalised learning pathways. Participants will learn how AI can help design differentiated routes for students, offering additional support where needed and more advanced challenges where appropriate. This will help educators respond to learner diversity while keeping the teacher in control of the pedagogical process.
Participants will also explore how AI can support assessment and feedback. They will work on practical ways to generate formative assessment activities, analyse student responses, provide targeted feedback, and use evidence of learning to plan the next teaching steps.
The course will address the responsible and ethical use of AI in education, including issues such as teacher agency, student privacy, transparency, bias, academic integrity, and the importance of human judgement in AI-supported learning environments.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed practical AI-supported classroom activities and a clear understanding of how AI can be used to improve lesson preparation, classroom interaction, student support, assessment, feedback, and personalised learning.
AI Horizons in Education International Course 2026 will offer educators the tools, experience, and confidence to use AI as a practical support for better teaching and deeper learning.

The summer school is organised in the framework of the projects:

AIWARE: Comprehensive, ready-to-use AI curricula, learning scenarios, and resources.

FAITH: The action focuses on the development of a human-centric AI ecosystem addressing ethical and societal risks in education.

GENAI-EDUMAP: Supports the ethical and scalable integration of generative AI in European education through research, educator training, pilot implementations, and evidence-based policy development.

The program introduces a modular, research-informed training framework designed to move well beyond traditional teacher professional development models. Rather than focusing solely on technical skills, the framework offers a holistic approach to AI capacity-building that supports educators as learners, designers, and leaders in an AI-enabled educational ecosystem. It organizes AI education into three essential and mutually reinforcing axes, each addressing a critical layer of teacher readiness:

Axis 1: Teach About AI

Develops robust AI literacy by enabling educators to understand what AI is, how it works, and how it shapes society. This dimension emphasizes foundational concepts, ethical principles, digital rights, and the social implications of intelligent technologies. Teachers build the knowledge needed to help students critically interpret and engage with AI in their everyday lives.

Axis  2: Teach With AI

Focuses on the practical integration of AI tools into teaching, learning, and assessment. Educators learn to leverage intelligent systems for formative assessment, learning analytics, adaptive instruction, personalized learning pathways, content creation, and pedagogical innovation. The emphasis is on using AI purposefully to enhance learning experiences while applying evidence-based and ethically grounded practices.

Axis 3: Teach For AI

Prepares students for thriving in an AI-driven future by cultivating the competencies they need for active participation in digital societies and future workplaces. This includes creativity, problem-solving, computational thinking, data literacy, collaboration, digital resilience, and critical thinking. Teachers learn to design learning environments that empower students not only to use AI but to understand, question, and creatively reshape it.

The five-day course will explore a range of thematic areas that reflect the diverse dimensions of AI in education, including:
  • Teachers’ Competencies and Professional Development in the Age of AI
  • Best Practices for AI Integration in Education
  • AI Tools for Personalized and Adaptive Learning
  • AI-Assisted Formative Assessment and Learning Analytics
  • AI Integration in School Curriculum
  • School AI Readiness
  • Ethical and Trustworthy AI in Education
  • AI Policies in School Education

This course is designed for educators, school leaders, researchers, policymakers, and education technology specialists seeking to deepen their understanding of AI’s role in modern education and to apply innovative, responsible, and human-centered approaches to teaching and learning.

School Heads and Teachers participation in the summer courses can be funded by the ERASMUS+ Programme.

In case your school or organization does not have the funds to cover the costs of your participation in the Summer School, there is another option: you can apply to be funded by by the ERASMUS+ Programme.

Please note that the Erasmus+ KA1 application can only be submitted by the school or the organization – no individual applications can be submitted.

The deadline for application is February 19, 2025.

What is ERASMUS+?

Erasmus+ is the European Commission’s Programme for education, training, youth, and sport for the period 2021-2027. As an integrated programme, Erasmus+ offers more opportunities for the mobility of learners and staff and cooperation across the education, training, and youth sectors and is easier to access than its predecessors, with simplified funding rules and a structure that aims to streamline the administration of the programme.

Erasmus+ Key Action 1 (KA1) provides a unique opportunity for teachers, headmasters, trainers, and other staff of educational institutions to participate in international training courses in different European countries. Schools, universities, vocational education and training, and adult education organizations are all eligible to receive full funding to attend courses under a KA1 mobility grant. The Erasmus+ KA1 grant covers all the costs to attend teacher training courses: including travel, subsistence, and course fee.

For up-to-date information about Erasmus+ please check the Programme’s website. Your school will need to apply to your country’s National Agency, who is also the one who will evaluate the proposal. Therefore, your National Agency is also a very good point to start for more information.

Don’t forget to go through the the New Programme Guide and you will have all you need to know.

The steps to apply for an Erasmus+ KA1 School Education Staff Mobility grant are:

  1. Fill in the registration form to our Summer School with your details. This is an individual registration form, so if there are more than one participant from the same school, each one will have to submit a separate registration form. This way you have reserved a slot in the course in case your application for Erasmus+ funding is successful!
  2. Register your school/organization here: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/erasmus-esc/index/ , if not already registered.
  3. Check the compliance with the programme criteria
  4. Check the financial conditions
  5. Fill in and submit the application form
  6. Respect the deadline
  7. Do not forget to inform us as soon as you get notified from your National Agency whether your grant application is accepted or rejected.

You can find all related information about submitting an Erasmus+ Application HERE.

We will be happy to guide you through the process.
